Topic :Oil Stains On Walls

We just moved into a new house and there seems to be an oily spot on one of our walls. You can't paint over it, the paint disappears. Baby powder does not seem to absorb the spot, and plain water has no effect on the stain. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? The spot is about a 2" diameter circle in size. Thanks for any help.
