Topic :Belt Tension

I had new belts put on last fall on my John Deere 160 riding lawn mower. Now the belt that is the main drive belt, which makes the lawn mower move is slipping . It happens worse the higher the gear position. How can I do my own adjustment on this belt. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
The belt should be self-tensioning with a spring loaded system. Either the spring has gotten weak, or the belt is shot. Some units need a belt every year due to poor alignment and heavy use, and some run for years on the same belt. You'll just have to trouble shoot a little to figure out the problem from here.
