Topic :New drain leak around the sink

I installed a porcelain sink in my bathroom. The drain leaks. I put plumbers putty around the flange, everything seems normal but it leaks around the tail piece. I went to the plumbing hardware and the plumber said I probably tightened the nut too hard and cracked the plastic thread. I bought a new drain system and have the same results. There is no gasket under the flange, just plumber's putty. Help I am at my wits end !!
Did you buy a new plastic or chrome drain? A chrome drain will conform to the sink contour much better, because you can really crank it down.

Although most plumbers will not agree with this, I like to use silicone caulk instead on tough sealing drains like that. Apply it liberally and wipe off the extra after you install the drain. Make sure you clean away all traces of the plumber's putty and clean all the surfaces with rubbing alcohol before using the silicone. This should work. I've never had one leak yet!
