Topic :Riding lawnmower starter and torque specs.

My friend has a riding mower, he said he tried to jump start it with a car and now it doesn't want to turn over. He burnt something in the ignition, the fuse is fine I checked it myself. I'm not sure what the problem is. Oh yeah, would you know how tight the rod bolts of a 5 horse Briggs and Stratton have to be(pounds per square inch)?
You didn't say what kind of Briggs 5hp motor, but the average torque spec. for all kinds is about 7 foot pounds or about 85 inch pounds.

As for the starter, it's possible that the switch or the starter has burned out. You can have either one tested at a mower store. It's also possible that a safety switch may have burned out. I would get a good voltage tester and see if the starter has power getting to it when the key is turned.
