Topic :My Snapper mower dies after just a few seconds

I have a walk behind Snapper. I bought it last year and it is doing the same thing it did about a year ago. It starts without any problem, but after 5 to 10 second it slowly dies. I changed the air filter and it has gas, oil etc.... I mowed half my lawn Sunday and then it died. It did this last year and I brought it in and they "fixed" it and said there was air in the gas line (I think that is what they said). Well another store bought that store and it's out of business. Most places have a 5 week waiting period, can you help??
You have a hard problem to diagnose without being there, but there are a few things I would recommend trying...
1.)My strongest theroy is that the lawnmower is getting too much gas. Motors need more fuel to start, then less after they start to warm up. I think that the choke may possibly be sticking closed. Once the mower is started try reducing the throttle to 3/4 speed and see if that helps. Also, try removing the air cleaner and running the motor for a short time...a dirty air filter
will choke out the motor. (Don't leave the air filter off longer than needed to test it).

2.) Replace the sparkplug (don't just clean it). The newer motors are VERY testy when it comes to sparkplugs. I've seen brand new sparkplugs make a motor run worse than the old one. (When removing the old plug check it's condition...if it looks blackened with carbon, then your mower is getting too much gas).

If none of these things work, the carb may have a small crack or need a professional adjustment. Keep me informed of the results and also send me some more information about the motor brand (Briggs and Stratton, Techumsa, etc), Horsepower, and anything else you think I could use. There may be a motor specific item I'm missing.
