Topic : I'm installing a new 15 amp circuit to supply receptacles in a second floor home addition. I plan on using receptacles rated at 15 amps.
I'm concerned about middle-of the run receptacles. I'd rather use pigtails for connecting the hot, neutral and ground to the receptacle than run all the wiring through the receptacle. The latter uses the receptacle as the connection device, but if any receptacle fails, so goes the circuit. Pigtailing prevents this failure mode.
What do you think about pigtailing vs. not pigtailing on middle-of-the run receptacles?

| Either way is acceptable. I too prefer pigtails, although receptacles are fairly reliable and easy to troubleshoot. If you do ditch the pigtails and just go with the receptacles, make sure you wrap the wires around the screws in a clockwise direction....don't use the quick connect holes. |
