Topic :Sliding Glass Door Removal
Hi, my patio door does not slide properly. I believe I need to install new rollers but can't figure out how to take the door off to do so. Do I have to dismantle the entire door frame and all? Can you get just the door off without taking everything apart? The door is sliding on the track so roughly that it is actually scraping metal on metal. I've oiled, greased, and waxed it to no avail. We even keep breaking door handles because we have to use too much pressure to open/close it. Help! Thank you very much. |
Because I don't know which kind of door you have I can't tell you for sure what to do to remove it. I can however, tell you how to remove most doors.
There are generally 2 ways to remove most doors. The first and most common on doors over 10 years old is simply to slide the door to the midpoint in the track, lift the door straight up and pull the bottom out of the track. This will release the top and the door will be free.
The second way is to look for two holes drilled by the bottom of the door. They are usually on the inside face, but can sometimes be found on the narrow edge of the door. They may be covered by little plastic plugs. Inside the holes are screws which adjust the height of the door. Loosen the screws and lift the door up and slide the bottom out like the first example.
Remember the door is VERY heavy. Make sure you have somebody there to help
out. |
