Topic :Trouble with a tub spout diverter

I recently moved into a house with a problem in the shower. Every time I try to run a bath, some water sprays from the shower head. I did replace the tub spout recently with no change in performance! The shower head is also new. The only other component that is still OEM is the tub "drain stopper". Could this possible
come into play? Thanks again for the reply!
When you changed the spout did you notice what size/ type pipe ran into the spout? If it's 1/2 inch copper or galvanized pipe it may be restricting the flow so much that it's forcing the water up just like the diverter does.

1/2 inch copper just isn't large enough to carry the volume of water from both the hot and cold to fill a tub. Tub faucets are high volume units.

As for galvanized, It will eventually rust itself shut from the inside out and restrict the water flow. If the pipe is old, I suggest replacing it should only cost about $5 for new nipples and fittings.

Another thing you can try is to remove the tub spout and try the faucet, if it stops running out the shower the spout opening is too small. (just remember to pull the curtain closed, because water will spray everywhere).
