Topic :Removing a blade adapter from the shaft.
I have a rotary lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. The blade is attached to a vertical shaft coming out of the bottom of the engine. The blade adapter appears to be a large nut attached to a short steel channel into which the blade fits. The sides of the channel should prevent the blade from turning on the shaft, but they have been ripped away, so I need to replace the adapter. I've tried to unscrew the adapter (because it looks like a nut), and also tried a pulley-puller to remove the adapter, but to no avail. Have you any suggestions? Thank you so much! |
| The blade adapter is a press-fit item. It doesn't unscrew. It's usually a really difficult time removing them. You were right using the pulley remover. I would keep soaking it in penetrating oil for a couple of days, or try a propane torch to heat it a little (not too much or the seal will burn). Then try the pulley remover again. I've had to give up a few times and take it to a shop to have it done...it takes about 5 minutes with the right tools and they charge me $5 to do it....not too bad considering the frustration I was dealing with. |
