Topic :Adjusting a storm door
Today's topic is screen/ storm doors. Most people have them, the majority of them don't close properly. Fixing them requires only a screwdriver and about 3 minutes of your time.

If you have to keep pulling the door closed because it's just not latching (but almost latching), or it closes so fast that your ankles are getting caught, this tip is for you!

On the inside of the door there will be a cylinder, this is the closer. One end will be attached to the door, one will be attached to the door frame. On the end of the closer that attaches to the door there will be a screw that goes into the closer tube. If your door closes too fast turn that screw clockwise (tighten) one complete turn. If your door doesn't close fast enough to latch it, loosen the screw 1 turn (counter-clockwise). Open the door all the way and let it go. If it closes properly you're done. If it's a little better, turn the screw another 1/2 turn and try it again. Repeat until the door closes at the desired rate.

If the adjustment screw doesn't seem to make any difference, it may be time for a new closer unit. They are available at any hardware store for around $10.

Please note: Some doors have 2 closers on them and the closers need to both be adjusted with each trial to set them properly. Also, the speed at which your door closes will vary depending upon if you have the screen or the storm window installed. You may need to readjust with the change of seasons.
